Resolution Regarding Congressman Tom DeLay

Resolution 2005-02

Whereas;
Congressman Tom DeLay has become embroiled in a growing series of ethical and legal quagmires that call into question his honesty and integrity,

And whereas;
Congressman DeLay has shown antipathy to the ethical rules that have been established to protect the Government of the United States from the threat of corruption by foreign money,

And whereas;
Congressman DeLay sought to avoid reprimand for his unethical activities by reorganizing the Ethics Committee of the United States House of Representatives so as to make future investigations into ethical breaches by members of Congress next to impossible,

And whereas;
Congressman DeLay has seen fit to lead the Republican Congress to intervene in a private medical situation that had been repeatedly and consistently resolved by state courts, thus endangering both American federalism and the Constitutional right to privacy,

And whereas;
Congressman DeLay has made threatening statements towards members of the judiciary who have not obeyed his unconstitutional attempts to dilute federalism and the right to privacy,

And whereas;
Congressman DeLay's statements will add to the growing danger of violence against members of the judiciary,

And whereas;
Congressman DeLay has abused his authority as House Majority Leader and forced officers of the Homeland Security Department to set aside their national security duties to become involved in a state political situation,

And whereas;
Congressman DeLay has led the House Republicans in egregious abuses of traditional House decorum and rules, poisoning relations between the two party delegations and obstructing efficient government,

And whereas;
Congressman DeLay's ethical troubles and poor leadership have besmirched the reputation of the State of Texas and embarrassed us before the nation,

And whereas;
Democratic and moral values require that officials elected to serve the public do so ethically, openly and always in the best interests of those whom they represent,

Therefore, be it resolved;
That the Dallas County Young Democrats call for the immediate resignation of Congressman Tom DeLay,

Be it further resolved;
That true copies of this resolution will be delivered to Congressman DeLay, the Houston Chronicle, the leadership of the United States House of Representatives and the members of the House Ethics Committee.

Dallas County Young Democrats
