The 2010 Elected Officers of the Dallas County Young Democrats

There are seven elected officer positions in the Dallas County Young Democrats. These officers are elected at the February general business meeting and serve year-long terms.

LeVar "L.D." Thomas was elected President of Dallas County Young Democrats in February of 2010

L. D. Thomas is a native of Dallas, Texas. The impact of having one grandfather a baptist minister and the other a well known local politician, is quite evident when examining the resume and carer path of L D Thomas.

L D's commitment and dedication to improving the lives of those around him manifested early. He was first appointed to the serve on the City of Dallas Youth Commission by then Mayor Ron Kirk, at the age of 14. Under his leadership, the commission hosted state wide youth conferences, teen talk shows, and teen town halls. From there Mr. Thomas went on to serve on the Human Services Commission, MLK Community Center Board of Directors, and the City of Dallas Housing Finance Corporation Board of Directors.

A lifelong Democrat, LD was honored and humbled to be elected as a National Delegate to the 2008 DNC on behalf of President Obama. in 2009 he launched am energetic campaign for Dallas City Council where he gained an impressive share of the votes and garnered praise and endearments from prominent officials and various entities including the Dallas Morning News. He is the past Chair of the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats (Dallas), received a United States Congressional Recognition for Community Service, and was nominated for Ebony Magazines Top 30 Leaders Under 30. He also spent time as an executive director for a non profit that focused on increasing literacy among minority men.

L. D. Thomas received his Bachelors degree in International Relations: Business and Economics from the University of North Texas.

Vice President Jeriva Traylor

Vice President Jeriva Traylor

Jeriva, a Dallas native, is a graduate from the University of Texas in Austin where she received a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology. She received her Masters of Arts in Family Therapy from Texas Woman's University and currently works as a Licensed Professional Counselor. She has been a proud member of Dallas County Young Democrats since April 2007.

Director of Political Affairs John Cooke

Director of Political Affairs John Cooke

John was elected Director of Political Affairs in February 2010.

John Cooke was born in Dallas to working class parents and spent his formative years growing up on a farm in East Texas before moving back to attend UT Dallas where he received a degree in Physics. After spending time in Northern California working as a Gradudate Student, John left Graduate School to become an IT professional in the Washington, DC area. After spending six years in that region, John moved back to his native Dallas where, in 2008, he was struck by the tremendous potential there was to improve people's lives by electing good Democrats County- and State-wide. Subsequently, John was elected Director of Political Affairs in February 2009 and again in 2010.

At the 2010 Texas Young Democrats Convention John was elected Region 5 Director.

Director of Community Service Joseph Amyson

Director of Community Service Joseph Amyson

Joseph Amyson was born and raised in Dallas Tx. His mother is a native from Chicago, and his Father is Nigerian. Joseph was Elected as the DCYD Director of Community Service in February 2010. Joseph is currently the Co-owner of an electronics distribution company, and the Operations Manager for Jet Fast Services. Joseph is also the new Precinct Chair of 2507, and also a State Delegate in Senatorial District 2. Joseph has worked on projects in the past with Acorn, volunteered with OFA, and helped out with the Obama Dallas Campaign. Joseph believes that he has received and has been blessed with so much, and now through DCYD is a perfect opportune time to give to the communities that need it the most.

Director of Finance Marcy Floyd

Director of Finance Marcy Floyd

Marcy, originally from Borger, TX, has lived in Dallas 6 years and has been involved with DCYD since 2007. After receiving a BA in Psychology from Texas A&M, Marcy went on to receive a MS in Human Development and Family Studies and a MS in Social Work. She currently runs a child abuse prevention and school readiness program for young children in the North Texas area. As Director of Finance, Marcy works to manages the finances of the organization, including fundraising.

Treasurer Andy Barron

Treasurer Cynthia Halatyn

Cynthia Halatyn was born in Houston, Texas and has been a lifelong Democrat. She has lived in Dallas since earning her Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Southern Methodist University. While at SMU, she was the Opinion Editor for The Daily Campus and President of the Political Science Symposium. Since graduation, she has worked for State Representative Allen Vaught, for the 2008 Dallas County Democratic Coordinated Campaign, and on a number of other political campaigns in Dallas County. She is the Precinct Chair for 2140 and serves on the Dallas County Democratic Party Advisory Council. Cynthia currently works as a Legal Assistant at Buchanan & Bellan, L.L.P.

Secretary Jordan McCarter

Secretary Jordan McCarter

Jordan currently serves as Secretary and Events Committee Chair of the Dallas County Young Democrats. Originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, she received her B.A. in History from Tufts University and her M. Ed. from Vanderbilt University. Since that time, she has been working in the Dallas-Fort Worth area as a Student Affairs professional in Higher Education. In addition to being a proud Democrat, Jordan is also a proud member of the Red Sox Nation. This is Jordan's second year on the DCYD Board of Directors.
